Afghan officials say that a US airstrike in southern Kandahar province has left at least 40 civilians dead and dozens injured. The incident occured in the Shah Walikot district late on Monday after a group of militants attacked US-led troops in the area. The US military said it was investigating. Speaking at a press conference in Kabul, Afghan President Hamid Karzai said his first demand from US president-elect Barack Obama was to end civilian casualties in Afghanistan.
