28. november 2014 (IISD): The Government of Spain has pledged to commit €120 million (ca 900 mio. kr.) to the Green Climate Fund (GCF), bringing total GCF contributions to US$9.7 billion (ca. 58 mia. kr.) equivalent. The announcement was made in advance of the 20th session of the Conference of the Parties (COP 20) to the UNFCCC, which is opening in Lima, Peru, on 1 December 2014, and just after the first GCF pledging conference, which took place in Berlin, Germany, on 20 November 2014.

GCF Executive Director Héla Cheikhrouhou said the pledge builds further positive momentum before Lima and called on countries that have not yet contributed to invest in the GCF. COP 20 will provide another opportunity for potential contributors to announce their pledges.

The Spanish Ministries of the Economy, Environment and Public Administration jointly announced the multi-year pledge.
