Job: Climate Adaptation and Sustainable Agriculture Coordinator



ADRA Denmark is seeking its new coordinator in charge of its thematic and strategic ambitions on climate, climate change adaptation, environment, sustainable agriculture and livelihoods. We are a dynamic programme team, waiting for you to come and join us in driving and further developing ADRA’s profile and programmes on climate related issues.

ADRA Denmark is an exciting workplace with 20+ employees based in Nærum, just north of
Copenhagen. We are part of a global network present in more than 120 countries all based on Christian values. The new coordinator will be part of the programme team, which currently consists of 10 staff members. The position will be based in Denmark but is expected to spend a considerable amount of time supporting activities in our 8 partner countries.

Key responsibilities:

  • Spearhead ADRA Denmark’s strategic ambition on climate adaptation, sustainable
    agriculture and livelihoods – and lead same technical working group.
  • Lead and further develop ADRA DK’s overall work on climate and environment.
  • Proactively work with programme colleagues to coordinate and provide high quality and applicable input and sparring to programmes across the portfolio on the strategic ambition.
    Furthermore, actively input to the development of new initiatives, programmes and
    partnerships within this field.
  • Lead ADRA DK’s advocacy efforts on climate and CCA in Denmark, as well as supporting partner offices in the same at country and regional levels. Represent ADRA in relevant for a and networks. Furthermore, provide support to the wider ADRA network and supporting offices on climate related topics.
  • Proactively lead and explore new and exciting directions for ADRA DK’s work on climate, climate change adaptation, environment, sustainable agriculture and livelihoods, in close collaboration with other working group members.
  • Support partner offices with ‘on the ground’ support, including capacity development and conduct relevant training.
  • Lead ADRA DK’s greening engagement and climate change mitigation efforts.
  • Monitor, research, document learning and create new learning and results related to the CCA, sustainable agriculture and livelihoods.

The successful candidate will have as many as possible of the following qualifications:

  • Professional experience from humanitarian and/or development organisations – or similar entity with the relevant field – working with community and nexus driven programmes.
  • Preferably some programme management experience, including development of Theory of Change models.
  • In-depth understanding and experience from climate change related work in an
    international context.
  • A relevant education, preferably at a higher degree level.
  • Strong analytical skills and ability to think strategically, innovatively and ‘out of the box’.
  • Good writing skills; fluency in written and spoken English.
  • Strong networking skills and open-mindedness.
  • Good intercultural and social competences, as well as a flexible, positive and pragmatic approach to problem solving.
  • Ability to work pro-actively, independently and solution oriented as part of a team.
  • Ability to travel 6 weeks or more per year and stay in basic conditions.
  • Motivation to work in a faith-based civil society organisation.

Employment conditions:

As per the ADRA Denmark terms. The salary level follows the basic government salary scale.

The workplace is Nærum, Denmark. The position will include travel activity primarily to Ethiopia (estimated at 6 weeks per year).
