The World Bank is committed to supporting Indias development agenda as is evident from the record annual lending of 9,3 billion US dollar (ca. 56 milliarder DKR) for the current financial year (næsten 4 gange så meget som Danmarks årlige u-landsbistand, red.)

The total expected lending this year includes 2,6 billion dollar as interest-free credits from the International Development Association (IDA) and 6,7 billion dollars in the form of long term, low interest loans from the International Bank of Reconstruction and Development (IBRD).

Indias share among the recipients of assistance from the World Bank was high at 15 per cent, followed by Mexico (11%) and South Africa (7%) as of June this year.

World Bank Country Director for India Roberto Zagha said on Wednesday in New Delhi that the bank was working on many projects. It could be lending a similar amount in the next fiscal starting July 2010.

The support would be for transforma-tive projects, including the Kosi flood recovery project and cleaning up the Ganges.

Besides, the Bank expects huge funding opportunity in the infrastructure sector, including the proposed dedicated freight corridor project.

During this fiscal, the Bank has given aid of about 3 billion dollar to the infrastructure sector alone, he added. (Det vil sige til el-forsyning, vand, sanitet, jernbaner, havne og veje).
