Den Europæiske Unions udviklingsbistand (PAD) især til Afrika vil være steget med 40 pct. i 2015 sagde EU-kommissæren for Udvikling, Andris Piebalgs, mandag d. 31. januar på det netop afsluttede 16. topmøde for den Afrikanske Union.
Addis Ababa, Ethiopien: De fleste af de 27 europæiske lande vil afsætte de aftalte 0,7% af bruttonationalproduktet (BNP) til udviklingsbistand i 2015 sagde Piebalgs ifølge nyhedssiden Afrique en ligne.
“Four out of the 27 European countries have already devoted 1% of their GDP to the aid for Third World countries. Several others are doing the same and we hope that by 2015, all member countries will reach the 0.7% of their GDP.”
Ifølge Piebalgs burde den økonomiske vækst muliggøre det for Europa at holde dets løfte om at øge PAD for at hjælpe udviklingslandene til at gennemføre deres tilpasningspolitikker til klimaændringerne.
Piebalgs fortsatte: “We need to mobilise again for more development aid with the challenge of climate change. In this context, the Commission strongly backs the initiative made by French president, Nicolas Sarkozy, to tax international financial transactions. Actually, we rely on the double French chairmanship of G-20 and G-8 for the idea to materialise.”
