Victoria Tauli-Corpuz har været FN’s særlige udsending for oprindelige folks rettigheder siden 2014.
Hun er fra Filippinerne, men hun er ikke særlig populær i regeringen under præsident Rodrigo Dutertes i hjemlandet. Den har sat hende på en terrorliste på baggrund af beskyldninger om at være medlem af en maoistisk oprørsgruppe.

Repræsentanter fra FN afviser beskyldninger og mener tiltaget bunder i udtalelser angående oprindelige folk i Filippinerne.
We are shocked that the Special Rapporteur is being targeted because of her work defending the rights of indigenous peoples,” siger Michel Forst, the Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights defenders, og Catalina Devandas Aguilar, Chairperson of the Coordination Committee of the Special Procedures.
“The accusation against her comes after the public comments made, jointly with other Special Rapporteurs, in relation to the militarization, attacks and killings of indigenous Lumad peoples by members of the armed forces in Mindanao; this accusation is considered as an act of retaliation for such comments,” tilføjer diplomaterne ifølge et opslag på hjemmesiden for FN’s særlige udsending for oprindelige folks rettigheder.
“Son of a bitch”
Det har fået Zeid Ra’ad al-Hussein, FN’s Højkommissær for menneskerettigheder, til at opfordre Filippinernes præsident til at søge psykiatrisk assistance.
Præsidenten i øriget har på sin side kaldt højkommissæren for “a son of a bitch”, fremgår det af denne video fra BBC.
Den internationale naturorganisation IUCNs danske forperson, Inger Andersen, har ligeledes kritiseret Dutertes udtalelser.
“This is deeply disturbing,” udtaler hun i et opslag på IUCNs hjemmeside.
“We at IUCN are dismayed that the Philippine Government could target a globally respected voice and spokesperson for indigenous peoples’ rights with malicious, unfounded and downright dangerous accusations. We note that the Philippines ratified the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, and call on President Duterte and the broader government authorities to immediately annul this unacceptable action and to issue apologies and regrets to all concerned.”
