Mette Skar joins the World Diabetes Foundation WDF) as a Programme Manager with a focus on global health and development. She holds a Master of Science in Public Health Science (folkesundheds-videnskab) from the University of Copenhagen.

The focus of Ms Skar’s studies was global health and development, non-communicable (ikke-smitsomme) diseases, and the social determinants for health. During her studies, she worked as a research assistant at the Danish institute against torture (DIGNITY).

She also worked as an intern (praktikant) at the World Diabetes Foundation, where she conducted an analysis of all WDF projects in school children, visiting projects in several countries in the process.

The analysis was subsequently published in 2015 under the title "Lessons learned from school based health promotion projects in low and middle income countries".

After graduating in 2014, Mette Skar worked as Health Programme Manager at DIGNITY, where she developed monitoring and evaluation tools for rehabilitation projects in Burma and the Middle East and North Africa.

This was followed by a temporary position as a Programme Coordinator at the World Diabetes Foundation, where her portfolio included amongst others; Europe, Central Asia, Thailand, India and the Philippines.

The 30-year old speaks Danish, Norwegian, English and Spanish. She lives at Nørrebro in Copenhagen.

WDF abourt WDF

The World Diabetes Foundation is an independent trust dedicated to the prevention and treatment of diabetes in the developing world.

Its aim is to alleviate human suffering related to diabetes and its complications among those least able to withstand the burden of the disease. The Foundation supports sustainable partnerships and acts as a catalyst to help others do more.

From 2002 to September 2016, the World Diabetes Foundation provided 122 million US dollar in funding to 486 partnership projects in 115 countries, focusing on awareness, education and capacity building at the local, regional and global level.

For every dollar spent, the Foundation is able to raise approximately two dollars in cash or as in-kind donations from other sources.
