Become our Country Director in Ethiopia

 

 

We are looking for a dynamic, visionary and systematic leader who can lead a country office team of 40 staff (12 women and 31 men) with an average annual turnover of 10 mio. USD for the DCA office in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

 
Your team in Ethiopia focuses on improving food security through quinoa seed production, building community- disaster- risk reduction skills and implementing humanitarian refugee and drought response, using the latest technology for cash-transfer. The country program has a strong gender component.  DCA implements a majority of the activities in collaboration with 16 civil society organisations, including the ACT alliance members. There is a Kenya component of the program which links to the Ethiopia program and which the Country Director also oversees.
 
The Country Director works with a senior management team in country including a Head of Program, Head of Finance, and a Humanitarian Coordinator. The country director has ultimate responsibility for the DCA team’s proactive response, planning, implementation and reporting on activities, which meet DCA quality standards, with the highest level of accountability to local population and Ethiopian authorities, and donor compliance criteria.  Given the context, the pace of work is high and structured management and prioritization of tasks by yourself and the senior mgmt. team is essential.
 
The country director is responsible for collaboration with a large network of international donors and decision makers in Ethiopia. There is also a significant interaction with the DCA Danish constituency of donors, agricultural research institutions and private sector.
 
Area of responsibility:

  • Member of International Department management team.
  • Overall responsibility for the development of the Ethiopia country program, including management and development of personnel, fundraising, programme portfolio, communication work and financial management of country office budget and growth in turnover.
  • Increase DCA impact and scale of activities in Ethiopia while ensuring DCA compliance with quality, accountability and financial reporting standards
  • Lead on trends within the humanitarian industry; cash transfer, mobile technology and quinoa seed production
  • Recognize and implement cost-savings measures as required.
  • Bring strategic overview of the total program portfolio that includes meeting continuous, external deadlines.
  • Build on the strong foundation of relations and network with embassies, donors, private sector, research institutions, including a number of important Danish constituency partners & institutions
  • proactively liaise with DCA headquarters on relevant policies, strategies, administrative procedures and systems directly influencing DCA country office work.
