DanChurchAid Partnership Liaison, DanChurchAid – Brussels
 
 DanChurchAid (DCA) is seeking a dynamic and experienced Partnership Liaison to be based in Brussels. As Partnership Liaison you will be DCA´s focal person in Brussels with the purpose of strengthening existing relations between DCA and European Institutions, such as DG ECHO and DG DEVCO, as well as fostering the establishment of new partnerships with relevant key stakeholders for DCA´s work.
 
DCA is one of the leading international civil society organizations in Denmark with a strong footprint in Africa, Asia and the Middle East. As part of DanChurchAid you will work to contribute to DCA´s vision of “a world without hunger, poverty and oppression, in which popular and political powers constantly work strongly and actively for a just and sustainable distribution and use of the earth’s resources”. The European Commission (EC) is the third largest donor to DCA´s international activities, both within humanitarian assistance and longer-term development. As Partnership Liaison you will be key in defining DCA´s strategy to strengthen EU relations with the purpose of increasing the levels of funding for DCA´s program activities
 
We are an active organization in dialogue with policy makers and seek to expand our influence on the agenda of future development cooperation, including the importance of development oriented humanitarian assistance. By establishing DCA´s presence in Brussels, you will contribute to strengthen DCA´s engagement at policy level with European institutions, as well as contribute to the efforts of resource mobilization for our humanitarian and development work, including through new partnerships, such as private sector cooperation. You will be part of the team in the DCA Global Funding Unit (GFU), which consists of nine staff members in Copenhagen and eight team members in our countries of focus in Africa, the Middle East and Asia.
 
The position is with base in Brussels, with occasional travel to Copenhagen, Denmark or DCA project sites. .

Your tasks
Overall you will contribute to the development and implementation of DCA´s strategy towards European institutions and platforms of relevance at European level. As DCA´s focal person in Brussels you will be responsible for strengthening DCA´s position as a strong and credible development organization vis-à-vis EU and related institutions. This will involve, among others, the following key tasks:
 

  • Contribute to the analysis of trends in European development policy, priorities and funding.
  • Take lead on relations building with European institutions as DG DEVCO and DG ECHO and other relevant stakeholders, such as the Danish EU representation and the Confederation of Danish Industry in Brussels.
  • Take lead on facilitating the flow of information and analysis to the DCA Head Office for concrete advocacy initiatives, partnerships and fundraising activities.
  • Represent DCA in relevant fora, including active relations building with civil society platforms, such as CONCORD and VOICE.
  • Participate and contribute to DCA´s learning and capacity building efforts on the EU system
  • Maintain dialogue and represent as relevant DCA in ACT Europe fora. DCA is part of the ACT Alliance (Action by Churches Together) – an alliance that consists of more than 100 churches and humanitarian organisations across the world.  
     

We expect the following qualifications from you

  • More than five years’ experience in working with European institutions with themes related to development cooperation and/or humanitarian assistance.
  • Extensive knowledge of and network within DG DEVCO and DG ECHO.
  • Documented experience in resource mobilisation with large institutional donors.
  • High level of knowledge of the key issues of the current development agenda, policy and financial trends.
  • Experience with private sector cooperation is an advantage.
  • Relevant higher education.
  • Excellent networker and strong communication skills.
  • Committed, flexible and result-oriented.
  • Accountability and integrity.
  • English proficiency written and spoken is required.
  • French skills would be an asset.
  • Cultural sensitivity, proven diplomatic skills and the ability to build relations both within and outside DCA.
