Background

The promotion of energy efficiency is key to advancing sustainable development and the global transition to a green economy, and provides a variety of environmental, social, and economic benefits.

In 2011, the UN Secretary-General and the World Bank launched the Sustainable Energy for All (SE4All) initiative, influencing the adoption of goals to increase energy access, reliance on renewable energy, and energy efficiency under the heading of SDG 7 in 2015. 

To support SE4All, the Danish government provided funding through UNEP to the UNEP DTU Partnership to establish the SE4All Energy Efficiency hub in 2013, which is hosted by the Copenhagen Centre on Energy Efficiency (C2E2). 

In partnership with other SE4All hubs and stakeholders, the Centre supports the goal of doubling the global rate of annual energy efficiency improvement by 2030 by offering analytical, knowledge, and capacity support.

Drawing on C2E2 research, this seminar provides an overview of global energy efficiency trends before examining the experiences of China and India in energy efficiency improvement in greater detail. 

This presentation of research findings will be complemented by an input from the Danish Energy Agency outlining Danish efforts to promoting energy efficiency in China and assessing the future potential for energy cooperation in the region.
