DanChurchAid (DCA) is looking for a dynamic and experienced Country Director for our Programme in Uganda.
 
As Country Director you will be the overall manager of the DCA Uganda programme. You will lead the DCA country management team and ensure good staff welfare and a constructive working environment. You will be responsible for developing strategic direction and ensure high quality, accountable and innovative programme implementation. The Uganda office and programme strategy builds on high targets for continued expansion and growth. You will be responsible for maintaining relations to donors and other stakeholders, and identifying programmatic expansion opportunities and new partnerships with institutional donors, private sector, NGOs and research institutions.
 
DCA’s programme in Uganda includes humanitarian and long-term development programming. We work with humanitarian response including livelihoods and cash-based programming; vocational training and youth empowerment, market development and value chains, land rights, social accountability and electoral democracy. The programme has a strong focus on women, youth, digital solutions and private sector partnerships. DCA works both through partners but also implement activities directly in our humanitarian response. Currently, DCA in Uganda has 70 staff including five expats, and you will be based in our Kampala office with frequent travel to the field, including our field offices in West Nile and Karamoja sub-regions. You will ensure a strong focus on security management, including updated plans and consistent monitoring and analysis of the security environment.
 
We are looking for:
  • At least 5 years proven experience in leadership and results-based management at a Country Director level or equivalent position
  • At least 10 years documented experience in managing development and humanitarian programmes
  • Proven experiences with successful fundraising and donor relations (in a highly competitive funding environment), private sector and innovative processes
  • Experience in integrated refugee and host community programming, cash-based programming, digital solutions, market-based livelihoods, women and youth empowerment, good governance, CHS, humanitarian-development nexus and local partners is an advantage
  • Cultural sensitivity, strong communication skills, proven diplomatic skills and the ability to build relations both within and outside DCA
  • Ability to lead and motivate staff and create a conductive work environment
  • Entrepreneurial drive and commitment to getting the job done
  • Holds a relevant tertiary academic education at Master’s level
  • Fluency in English – oral as well as written 
 
We offer:
A three-year contract starting 1 June 2018, with handover in DCA HQ and Uganda. Terms according to our Handbook for DCA expatriate personnel, family postings. Expected salary range is 33,000 to 40,000 DKK monthly depending on level of experience and on top of that 12,17% pension contribution and 6 weeks’ vacation per year.
