Psychosocial Delegate

 

 

Danish Red Cross (DRC) has been present in Asia for more than 20 years and is currently active in Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Myanmar, Nepal and Pakistan with approximately 20 expatriate staff based in the region. We emphasize strengthening of partner organizations and their integrity, transparency, autonomy and sustainable volunteer structures as conditions for building sustainable operational capacity.

The Psychosocial Delegate forms part of the DRC Country Team in Bangladesh and will contribute to the implementation of DRC International Strategy through technical support to Bangladesh Red Crescent Society’s (BDRCS) implementation of the DRC funded programme.

Responsibilities

The Psychosocial Delegate refers to the DRC Country Coordinator and will divide his/her time between:

  • Support to BDRCS implementation of  the DRC bilaterally supported PSS emergency and recovery plan 70%
  • Support to the RCRC Movement PSS Response 20%
  • Planning, Monitoring, Evaluation and Reporting (PMER) 10 %

The main tasks and responsibilities include:

  • Support BDRCS PSS staff including, as applicable, one focal point, field supervisors, and facilitators in the implementation of the BDRCS DRC supported emergency PSS operation including:
    • Contribute to the development of Dignity, Access, Participation, and Safety (DAPS) framework in the operational area
    • Manage the implementation of the PSS component in strong collaboration with other project components including PGI, CEA, and RFL
    • Development of PS activities in the center 
    • Support and monitor planned activities that take place in center
    • Support the capacity building of BDRCS PSS Unit by supporting recruitment, training, mentoring and on the job training of community facilitators
    • Coordinate, communicate and collaborate closely with relevant organizations/service providers
    • Monitor and adapt referral mechanisms
    • Support the BDRCS PSS capacity in technical supervision, training and mentoring of PSS volunteers through training and on the job coaching of BDRCS field technical supervisors and facilitators
    • Contribute to the development of PSS early recovery and longer-term planning incl. development of community-based PSS recovery activities
    • Support BDRCS in mobilizing funding for its emergency and recovery plan with particular focus on PSS
    • Ensure that all DRC and donor reporting requirements are met incl. writing and editing programme updates and reports
    • Explore fundraising possibilities in close cooperation with Country Coordinator and contribute to proposal writing and application as relevant and agreed

 

Experience and qualifications

The applicant must have a relevant educational background, e.g., Master’s Degree in Psychology or Social Science and possess a minimum of 5 years professional experience in developing, managing and reporting on PSS programmes. Experience with community level implementation support from previous work with humanitarian organizations in developing countries is a requirement.

Red Cross Red Crescent Movement experience from working in large emergencies and/or early recovery operations with complex coordination is required. Previous work with ECHO funded programmes is an asset.

Practical experience in the field of child protection, i.e. skills in mapping and analysis of related to PSS and child protection. Experience and skills in development of training curriculums and Information, Education and Communication and PSS training materials

It is highly desirable to have a strong profile in training, mentoring and building skills of staff and volunteers related to PSS and child protection.

Excellent communication and networking skills.

The applicant must be able to work in a harsh working environment, which is hot, wet and psychically demanding.

Excellent English speaking and writing skills are required as well as full proficiency in computers (user level) and possession of a valid international driving license.

Employment Conditions

The preferred starting date is 1 February 2018 or as soon as possible thereafter. The contract period is one (1) year with possibility of extension.

The duty station is Cox’s Bazar, Bangladesh. The position is a non-family post.

Salary and benefits are in accordance with the DRC Terms and Conditions for Delegates on Long-Term Missions. The salary including all allowances and pension will be between DKK 40,300 to 42,500 per month, depending on qualifications and experience.
