Programme Coordinator – Disaster Management – Nepal

 

Danish Red Cross (DRC) is seeking a dynamic and motivated Programme Coordinator with demonstrated successful experience in disaster management to support the Nepal Red Cross Society (NRCS) in formulation, development and implementation of a new community-based preparedness and response programme.

DRC has been working in bilateral partnership with NRCS since 2007 and currently cooperate on a number of disaster preparedness, response and recovery programmes. Some of these programmes are in the final stage of implementation and a new preparedness and response programme will be formulated and initiated at the beginning of 2017 based on the lessons learned from the current programme.

Responsibilities
The Programme Coordinator will work in close coordination with the DRC Country Office to provide managerial support and technical assistance to NRCS in formulation, planning, implementation, quality assurance, monitoring and evaluation of the disaster preparedness and response programme, as per programme document, logframe, budget, action plans and donor requirements.

The Programme Coordinator is also responsible for financial oversight of the programme and technical inputs to and facilitation of revision and development of NRCS preparedness and response guidelines, frameworks and tools. Other key tasks include ensuring proper narrative and financial reporting, programme risk management as well as coordination and cooperation with the key stakeholders.  

Experience and qualification
The ideal candidate has minimum 5 years of international field experience in disaster management and programme management including financial oversight of programmes. The candidate demonstrates technical understanding of and solid experience in programme design/proposal writing and in at least two of the following sectors: DRR, WASH, climate change and emergency health.  

The candidate has strong self-management skills and process ability to balance multiple urgent or important tasks without undue stress. Furthermore, the candidate needs to have the willingness and ability to cope with frequent off-road travels and to work in an environment with power, transportation and communication challenges.

Excellent English speaking and writing skills are required as well as full proficiency in computers (user level) and possess a valid international driving license.

Employment conditions
The starting date is 1st of February 2017. The contract period is one year with possibility of extension. Your duty station will be Kathmandu with regular travels to programme sites, up to 50% of the contract period. This is accompanied position, meaning that it is possible to bring a spouse and children.

You will report to the Danish Red Cross Country Coordinator based in Kathmandu. The monthly salary including all allowances and pension will be between DKK 39,500 – 41,700 depending on qualifications and experience.
