Job: Communications Internship (South Africa)

THINK is a non-profit organisation committed to advancing health and well-being for vulnerable communities both locally and globally. Our work spans three central domains: research, health systems strengthening, and capacity building. Our focus is on addressing a wider spectrum of critical health challenges which include Infectious Diseases, Mental Health, Gender disparities, and building resilient healthcare systems in the face of pandemics and climate change. THINK engages with the local community, government consortia, and international funders to provide care and carry out cutting-edge work that has contributed to making a difference both locally and globally.

This internship will be located in our head office in Durban, South Africa and is open for international foreign students, as a collaboration with European universities.

Job description

We are looking for an independent intern filled with drive and passion for contributing to the communications of THINK’s South African Office in Durban and engaging people to join our mission of making a difference in Global Health. We expect you to take the lead on the tasks at hand, with support and guidance from your colleagues and managers.

Key responsibilities

  • Participate in developing and driving the communication strategy at THINK.
  • Creating content for our social media platforms and analyzing their performance, incl. LinkedIn, Facebook and Instagram.
  • Research and contribute to internal understanding of social media best practices and tracking analytics.
  • Close collaboration with comms team in South Africa to share creative ideas on stakeholder engagement and external communication.
  • Contribute to our newsletter with ideas and writing articles.
  • Support of project colleagues with communications materials for presentations, fundraising, events, etc.
  • Using ChatGPT and other AI to facilitate your work and improve processes.
  • Possibility of focusing on your own interests within communication tasks.
  • Support of comms in our other country offices incl., Eswatini, Mozambique, Zimbabwe, Namibia and Denmark.

Requirements

  • Enrolled in a relevant academic program (Communications, Marketing, Global Development, International Relations, Anthropology, Business Administration & Psychology, Global Health, etc.).
  • Previous experience in similar positions, such as a student position or volunteer position
  • Strong analytical skills.
  • Passion for global health, communications, SoMe analytics, and making a difference.
  • Excellent communication, teamwork abilities and independent.
  • Fluent in English.

The internship is preferably a full-time position, but working hours can be adjusted to exam periods and other student jobs. It is an unpaid internship position, starting in August 2024 lasting for 5 months (subject to university agreement).
