The International Monetary Fund is making loans available to Zimbabwe for the first time in a decade, BBC online reports Friday.

The 500 million US dollar (ca. 2,6 milliarder DKR) has been released on the condition that Zimbabwes finance minister ensures it is used to replenish the dwindling foreign exchange reserves and not used for other projects.

The former opposition MDC (now part of the countrys unity-government) has been criticised by President Robert Mugabes Zanu-PF party for not doing enough to secure donor funding for the country. In turn, the MDC has accused Zanu-PF of continued human rights abuses.

Zimbabwes financial woes in the past have been partially blamed on gross mismanagement of its central bank funds.
